I am an engineer and am doing some research on MRO. Would like to discuss with some of you on technical aspects of maintaining a commercial plane, say a typical B737 or A330.
Can you help out by telling me what are the various maintenance activities of a plane and how does it progress along the lifecycle of an aircraft?
Thanks a TON,
Sam

HI SamBaha2006 welcome to the site,
Most commercial aircraft operate on a phased maintenance program. This limit's the out of service time to a minimum.
The aircraft manufacture has a recommended program for the aircraft and the airlines will adopt a program very similar to that.
Most carriers have
Service checks: Daily inspections with general visual inspections of key areas including fluid levels and tire pressures.
A checks: Little more in depth visual inspections that includes everything a service check plus some filter changes.
B checks: Service + A check and all filters. Greasing of most lube points.
C checks: These checks typically are worked in phases. They involve major opening up of the aircraft for detailed visual inspections. Checks take anywhere from 5+ days.
D checks: Are the biggest. They involve removing every removable fairing, panel and covered surface. This check is a major corrosion finding inspection. Major NDT is performed. Engine mounts and Major attach points are inspected.
All Airlines kinda make up their own maintenance program. The FAA, CAA or aviation governing body will have to approve the program.
