From time to time I like to take a few moments and blow off some steam using words. anim_pissed.gif

I just received the latest issue of "Teamsters Airline Journal" today. I was excited to see what BS our leader was going to feed us this time. I truly had hoped there would be something about the two issues I feel strongly about (The voting procedures re-work and the pension reform act) were there.
Mr. Treichler didn't let me down. I tell you this guy must really be disconnected from the world.
The industry he leads for the IBT is swirling down the drain like a turd, yet there isn't one mention about the loss of pensions or how the IBT is promoting In-house maintenance in the Airline industry.

Mr. Treichler and his division instead focused on the "Threat of Shoulder-Launched Missiles". 5 pages were dedicated to this subject. There was even the incorrect bill number listed. For those interested the correct Bill for This Act may be cited as the `Commercial Airline Missile Defense Act'. S. 1193 and H. R. 2780

Basically the Bill would require all turbojet aircraft used by an air carrier for scheduled air service to be equipped with a missile defense system.

The cost of this system was stated to cost ONE Million dollars per aircraft. The government is to buy the equipment and the airlines would install it and maintain it.

Let's get this straight. Were spending Billions in Iraq, Billions in Louisiana and the Gulf States. Half the nations airlines are in Bankruptcy and Jet fuel is threw the roof! You think we can afford another 8 Billion for laser beams? Gentleman start your press's!

No, wait! Yes, the Government will by the Buck Rogers Laser's and the airlines will have their third party maintenance outfits overseas install them and maintain them. anim_thinking.gif

It took 5 years for the Faa to implement the smoke detection systems after ValuJet and smoke systems were readily available and had been developed. If this grand idea were to happen it would be 10+ years before we would be "ops checking" them in the hanger. anim_smoke.gif
