In case you missed it, the news is in the front page!
Am I missing something or didn't Delta already have a low cost division named "Delta Express" operating with a hub out of Orlando?
What's new about something that's been going on for 4+ years? _________________

It appears that DL is launching it's most aggresive attempt at competing with SWA, JBLU, & AIRTRAN. Although, DL Express was originaly formed to compete with carriers such as SWA, the result has been less than successful. And, now with the increased competition from the other "low fare" airlines previously mentioned it appears that DL has come up with a better "mousetrap". DL is trying to protect it's 25% market share in ATL, MCO, FLL and other eastern seabord cities it serves.
It should prove to be interesting as UAL, USAIR and others have scrapped their versions of a "low cost" airline within an airline. |

The thing that cracks me up is that they are throwing 757's on the routes.
They say it will allow cheaper seats due to the larger aircraft type. I guess it's a wait and see thing, but if CAL, UAL, and USAir have not achieved the low fare airline within an Airline what make them think theirs will be a success?
I know.........NO UNIONS !
They can get cheep labor _________________

First, I mistakenly posted a "new topic" instead of "reply" to the last post.
I stand corrected according to an article in USA TODAY, which described the method in which DL will operate it's new "low fare" airline debuting in '03. According to the article, DL "doesn't plan a lower wage scale for crews" but rather "efficiencies from flying larger planes over a longer day, 13hrs. vs. 11hrs. now". Of course, with the exception of their pilots no other work groups have any protection over wages/benefits. What the article failed to mention was the expected increase in productivity by the workforce. And, I'm still not convinced as well as some wall street analyst that this new venture is going to succeed.
I couldn't help but laugh when our SWA spokesman was quoted, "Where's the innovation?", when asked about DL's new "low cost" airline. |

Hey 737 Welcome aboard!
I was going to mention the new topic, but being that I got chewed out the last time I moved something on here I thought it best to just leave well enough alone.
Delta's attempt doesnt bring in any innovation that for sure.
If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck.....it's a duck!
They are not trying to re-invent the wheel with this idea. Time will tell. _________________
