Returning to my same complaint with the Airline division I sent another email to the powers that be about the lack of information.
I must first say I was pleased at the announcement about the Outsourcing summit that will happen 2-11-2008.
Below is the message I sent and the responses I received. Although I don't always get the responses I hope for I nevertheless am trying to make positive moves for the union.

I would first like to commend you on putting out the Important notice about Outsourcing in the industry/Continental dated 1/25/2008. This is the first notice I have seen specifically related to my division at the national level. I have been a strong proponent in the communication and lack there of in the airline division. In the information age the IBT and specifically the airline division needs to work harder at issuing press releases as to the work they are doing toward our profession.
I would also like to add that the "continental updates" on this locals website is pathetic. CAL is in a contract negotiation year. Myself and my union brothers and sisters look to this site for information. Having two items from 3 years ago is just sad!
If you don't tell us what your doing we think your not doing anything!
Please pass this to Daisy and also Don.
Thanks
Tory Sims

Brother Sims:
Thank you for your E-mail. Per you request, copies were sent to both Daisy and Don.
You are correct there should be more communication from the Division to our members and I will address the subject with Don. As for the Locals web-site I have asked Daisy to begin forwarding all of the information that she receives or distributes to our web-master for posting. Once the info is received by the web-master it should be posted within a few hours. Additionally, the Local Union's E-board has been working with a company to set up and run an e-newsletter. Very soon we will be requesting the e-mail addresses of our members who wish to receive such a newsletter. We hope to use this service in two ways first to communicate to the full membership about general Local Union issues and secondly to communicate to subgroups or bargaining units about unit specific issues like contract negotiations or grievance issues. I hope this e-mail was helpful and please feel free to contact me again should you have additional concerns.

Dear Tory:
Thank you for your message on communication forwarded to me by L-769. The Airline Division publishes a quarterly Journal covering Airline Division news. The most recent edition was devoted exclusively to airline mechanics and related. This is the only union to have done so. That edition described the Teamsters Aircraft Mechanics Coalition (TAMC) formed under the Airline Division. The Division is the only organization to have done that. The TAMC has held one meeting and is about to hold a conference in Washington, DC attended by Congress, industry leaders, and mechanics. This conference is focused on outsourcing and what to do about it. If you are not receiving materials specific to the Division, you should contact your LU and confirm your mailing address, since the Journal is sent to all members as are Continental Airline fliers distributed by the Division. Shortly, you will receive a survey soliciting input on the forthcoming CAL contract negotiations. This provides you the opportunity to contribute to the decision on what your bargaining priorities are. Again, thanks for your email. Fraternally, Don Treichler, Director, Airline Division
Although I hope I at least got someone thinking about putting more stuff out I think Don has missed the point again.
On the Airline division website under Continental http://www.teamstersairmechanics.com/airlines/calinfo.htm the latest posting is from March 5 2005. In almost 3 years I think there should be something news worthy that has happened.
Although the quarterly news is important this is the 21st century. By the time they write it and publish it the news is over 6 months old.
