Union Politics is not our real enemy. Fuel prices, low cost carriers and outsourcing are our real enemy. How the airlines are reacting to them is what I fear most.

You guys want to have positive dialogue about aircraft mechanics, but much of what I see is a buch of sniveling about unions. cryb.gif
YOUR UNIONS ARE NOT ON YOUR SIDE.
Anyway, I could go on and on about how anti union I am. There should be a site just for that.

Whats going on on the mechanics side of things? Has anyone performed an interesting mechanics task, developed a new tool, or encountered an unusual problem? Heck, has anyone performed a mundane every day task? How was it?

I have been 10 years out of the aviation industry, and am now going back to work as an A&P. I am looking forward to keeping you all posted on what kind of work I finally get into as well as the details of the tasks that I perform. I think that you all would be more interested in those types of details than my wife is. She loves me for other reasons.

I have quite a bit of prior aircraft experience, and am pleased to have opportunities available (Some of them union shops). I am using my A&P as a stepping stone to what I hope to be greater things (We'll see). Perhaps I will find greater things in aviation. I hope so, because I have never lost my love of aviation. However, if the right opportunities present themselves outside of aviation, I will jump on it, if its right for me. I will also be going back to school to finish my degree. I'm exited to be attending Embry Riddle where I wish to get a BS in Professional Aeronautics (For whatever that is worth). I am finding that good opportunities are more difficult to take advantage of without that degree. Interesting that the degree would be titled a BS, because on a certain level, I think that it is a bunch of BS. However, I am surrendered to the fact that I do not make the rules of society. If a degree is what they want to see, I will produce a degree. The one thing that I will NOT be depending on for MY security, is a union.
Best Regards,
David

mojo,
I apologize for my reply to your post. It probably looks as if I was ragging on you, but I did not intend it that way. I joined this site a couple days ago and did not fully realize that my last post was as a reply to your previous post about fuel. I should have made a new subject.
Best regards,
David

Believe me, fuel is going to have a devistating effect on the airline industry and the jobs related to it...

Makes you wonder who is really winning the war.

I cant really claim to understand how the petroleum industry works, and who is behind it all. I wonder, also, who we are supporting when we fill up our tanks. It makes me pretty un-easy to think about all the middle eastern oil that we depend on, with all that is going on in our world. Again, I cant claim to understand it all, but I cant help but wish that we would put more effort into developing alternative energy sources.

Yes Mojo, here we are a year and a half later from your original post on this subject and, damn, if we are'nt in a hell of a lot more pickle than we where then.

I'm going to a job interview next week for a company that makes industrial gas turbine engines that are used in the energy industry. It should be an interesting experience to, perhaps, gain some insight as to how turbine engines play a roll in all of this.

I certainly am having fun with this web site, and look forward to keeping you all posted.
Respectfully,
David
