1982 The Airbus A300 FFCC is certified, becoming the first wide body airliner with cockpit accommodations for only two to be certified.2003 A Turkish Airlines plane with 76 passengers and crew on board crashes while coming in to land at Diyarbakir.
There has been rumor that the Teamsters has had our head shop steward traveling to UAL's bases attempting to get UAL mechs to change their union to the Teamsters.
First of all why is CAL paying our union reps to recruit for other airlines? Second why would we even be wanting UAL to have the same union in the case of a merger? Would'nt that give all of their members seniority over most of CAL mechs? I believe that this type of activity should stop immediately. If it is the intentions of the teamsters to sell us out then they should be replaced.

18-3 paragraph M states
Quote:
Effective upon signing of this Agreement, the Company will assume the
cost of one hundred and seventy-three hours (173.0) of straight pay time
per month for each location where two hundred and fifty (250) or more
actively employed covered employees are based, and eighty-seven and
one-half hours (87.5) for locations where more than two hundred (200)
but less than two hundred and fifty (250) actively employed covered
employees are based. This time is to be used only for conducting Union
business. The time may be used by one or more shop stewards as
designated by the Local Union Business representative, or his designee.

I actually inquired about this. It's not a rumor...it happened and is happening. Most of the time is off the clock! I'm sure the Shop Stewards expenses are being taken care of, but he's not being paid for his assistance. Only his regular 40 per week.
I have been told directly by this person that CAL was informed about this. The contract allows time to be used as the Local Business rep designates.
If the Chief Shop Steward has been neglecting his duties and all fell apart when he was gone I would be the first to yell FOUL. I really haven't heard of any issues.
You got it all wrong brother!

Having both work forces in the same union would make a merger all that easier. It's all done by Hire date. How invasive is that. Your a low timer...your at the bottom, no matter who bought who. You really think CAL would buy UAL?? You would want it all based on hire date. Anything else would be a major battle, and the little company would ultimately loose.
How do you feel the Teamsters are selling us out? I mean you think the Teamsters have a ounce of pull in what CAL does for CAL. You think their having secret meetings behind our backs lining up ways to screw us?
Although I really do have some continuing issues with the Teamster Organization, I really do believe they gave us a rock solid work scope. Look at what the rest of the industry has done.
A union is more about it's members and how they react and acts then the name it calls itself! _________________
