Posted on Wednesday, February 06, 2008 @ 11:59:19 EST by planedoctor
General News Melbourne-based LiveTV this morning announced that it has entered into a long-term agreement with Continental Airlines to install and service its in-flight entertainment system on Continental’s new generation of Boeing 737 and 757-300 aircraft.

The Continental deal will result in the addition of 100 to 150 jobs at LiveTV over the next two years, said Glenn Latta, the company’s president and co-founder. About 10 to 15 of those new jobs will be at LiveTV’s corporate headquarters in Melbourne, he said.

Most of the new jobs will at the company’s production facility at Orlando International Airport. Most of the new positions will be maintenance technicians.

Currently, LiveTV has about 220 employees in Orlando and about 125 in Melbourne, Latta said.

Continental said it will offer 36 channels of live, in-flight satellite-based television programming provided DirecTV at every seat on Continental’s new generation aircraft. The service is expected to be available to customers on flights operating within the continental United States beginning in January 2009.

In addition, Continental will be introducing onboard Wi-Fi services, including e-mail and instant-messaging connectivity offered by LiveTV.

LiveTV, a wholly owned subsidiary of JetBlue Airways, has provided live television programming and other services to JetBlue since its inception.

It also serves seven other airlines around the world with its in-flight entertainment products, including DirecTV-based live television programming and XM Satellite Radio, as well as and wireless services, including a handheld platform for in-cabin sales.
