EAST HARTFORD, Conn., /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- United Airlines has selected Pratt & Whitney, a United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX) company, to provide a Materials Management Program (MMP) for United's fleet of PW4000- 94" and -112" engines. The 10-year exclusive agreement is the largest MMP agreement in Pratt history and includes a 10-year renewal option. Financial terms were not disclosed.

"Through this MMP, they play a significant role in helping us drive down costs while improving engine performance and reliability."
Under the MMP Pratt & Whitney will manage all parts inventory and logistics, including new spare parts, used-serviceable material and part repair.

"With this agreement, more than 60 percent of United Airlines' engines have been entrusted to the care of Pratt & Whitney Global Service Partners; we take that responsibility very seriously."
In support of the United MMP, Pratt & Whitney will establish a material and logistics hub at San Francisco International Airport (SFO) in San Francisco, Calif. The new facility is expected to be fully functional by the end of 2005. The new operation will be responsible for supporting 217 PW4000- 94" engines on United's Boeing 747s and 767s, and 117 PW4000-112" engines for the airline's Boeing 777 fleet.

In addition to the MMP agreement, Pratt & Whitney will manage the on-wing performance of the PW4000 fleet using its Advanced Diagnostics and Engine Maintenance (ADEM) system. ADEM is a web-based, automated tool that provides detailed maintenance information to achieve the lowest possible total costs with optimal engine reliability and time on-wing.
