General Aviation
Kansas-based airplane maker Hawker Beechcraft Services said today that it would expand its Indianapolis aircraft maintenance center. The project would add about 50 engine and electronic technician jobs in five years, bringing total employment to about 123 at the Hawker site.

The $14 million expansion would build and equip a hangar at Indianapolis International Airport to service the Hawker 4000 and other new aircraft.

The twin-engine 4000, a $20 million business jet seating 14, is scheduled to reach market soon as the company’s flagship aircraft amid an anticipated boom in industrywide sales of corporate jets.

 Eclipse Aviation Sells First Plane
Posted by planedoctor on Thursday, January 04, 2007 @ 19:52:01 EST (754 reads)
General Aviation ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- Eclipse Aviation sold its first customer aircraft on Thursday.

The Albuquerque-based aircraft manufacturer touted the sale during a ceremony at its headquarters.

Eclipse President Vern Raburn handed the keys -- the airplane starts like a car -- to the first Eclipse 500 to California-based Jet-Alliance.

Jet-Alliance owner Randall Sanada said the twin-jet Eclipse 500 airplane will be used in a shared ownership program.

One of those owners, David Crowe, flew the airplane already and called it the easiest one he has ever piloted.

The six-seat very light jet airplane costs $1.5 million, which Eclipse has said is one-third less than the cost of other small jet aircraft.

General Aviation

Eclipse Aviation has begun construction of its first facility outside the Duke City. The Albuquerque-based manufacturer of the Eclipse 500, a 6-seat jet aircraft, held the ground breaking ceremony on April 3 in conjunction with the Gainesville-Alachua County Regional Airport Authority in Florida.

The Gainesville facility will be part of a network of seven U.S. Factory Service Centers devoted to the maintenance and support of the Eclipse 500, according to a news release. The new 61,000-square-foot facility is expected to be complete in early 2007. The center initially will employ 15 people, with the ability to expand to more than 160, says the release.

The Business Journal of the Greater Triad Area

If all goes as planned, Antilles Seaplanes LLC will soon begin building planes that haven't been manufactured since the end of World War II, thus adding to the Triad's solid base of aviation-related companies.

Partners Tim Henderson and V.L. Manuel say they plan to start producing about one plane a month next spring, and will employ about 50 people initially.

Antilles Seaplanes is the second Triad company in the last year to announce plans to start manufacturing airplanes, and the newest member of a sizable, and growing, industry cluster in aviation.

Wing Aviation Tackles Simultaneous Blended Winglet Installation
Posted by deccal on Friday, August 26, 2005 @ 23:46:40 EDT (478 reads)
General Aviation

HOUSTON, August 25, 2005 – Wing Aviation is the first and only aviation service center to install Blended Winglets to both a Gulfstream II and Hawker aircraft simultaneously.

“We are excited about the opportunity to perform multiple installations,” said Brian P. Wing, president of Wing Aviation.  “This simply continues to position our facility as a leading aviation service center and a natural choice for Blended Winglet technology.”

Blended Winglets are custom-built wingtips constructed to boost performance, reduce drag and increase fuel consumption efficiency.  Studies show that the enhancements can improve fuel efficiency as much as 7 percent at speeds between Mach .75 and .80.  Further, performance statistics show that IISP aircraft (Blended Winglet enhanced Gulfstream II aircraft) exhibit increased range of 210 nautical miles and a 30-knot increase in speed.

A single-engine plane made an emergency landing on a moving pickup in Central Florida Saturday and both the pilot and driver survived the crash, according to Local 6 News.

Police said pilot Glenn Meleen, 23, was forced to land his single-engine Piper plane on West Park Avenue after he experienced problems with the aircraft.

Meleen, a student at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University, dropped the banner that the plane was towing and came down on the cab of a passing 1988 Dodge Ram driven by Oglesby, 61, of Edgewater.

"There were no cars coming left or right, but I didn't see any plane," Oglesby said. "I didn't look into the sky."
