WICHITA, Kan., Nov. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Spirit AeroSystems, Inc., today announced that it has been awarded Repair Station Certification by the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) to perform aircraft maintenance repair and overhaul. The certification allows Spirit to work directly with the airline companies to perform maintenance and repair activity on Boeing engine struts, engine nacelles, control surfaces and 737 doors along with Embraer engine nacelles.
Repair work at the Wichita facility previously had been accomplished under a repair station certificate that was in place when the site was owned by The Boeing Company. Boeing sold its commercial operations in Wichita, Kan., and Tulsa and McAlester, Oklahoma to the Onex Corporation of Canada in June 2005.
"As part of our transition into an independent company, we have been working with Boeing and the FAA to establish our own certified repair station," said Tod Wawzysko, vice president Quality/Environmental Health and Safety & Process Improvement.
"The support that was previously provided to our airline customers through Boeing can now be provided direct, enhancing the delivery time while providing the same quality of product. We are looking forward to building this authorization into a significant part of the Spirit AeroSystems business," he said.
