WASHINGTON, Dec. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Mechanics and related workers at Piedmont Airlines voted for the Teamsters Union in a representation election which was tallied today. The National Mediation Board (NMB) confirmed that the Teamsters were the representative chosen by the mechanic bargaining unit.
"This is a victory for the Piedmont aircraft maintenance technicians (AMTs) and related workers in that they preserved union representation and they chose the Teamsters to represent them," said Don Treichler, Director of the Teamsters Airline Division. "By their vote, the AMTs chose the support of the strongest union in North America."
The Teamsters Union has advised Piedmont management of its intent to bargain, thereby ensuring that all of the Piedmont mechanics and related workers are covered under Teamster representation.
The 390 eligible voters in the bargaining unit had the opportunity to choose not to vote, vote for the Teamsters Union or vote for another union in the election that was conducted over the past three weeks.
