American Airlines is cutting 60 management positions at its maintenance and engineering center in Tulsa, Okla.

The Fort Worth-based airline blames high fuel prices and ongoing efforts to streamline operations.

The management cuts are the first in Tulsa since a company-wide restructuring began in May 2003.

American nearly filed for bankruptcy after losing $6 billion since 2001.
